Former Newlands Girls' School student Tara Deane released 'Staying Young' during a mini-festival at The Pinkneys Arms, which she hosted on Sunday, June 8, to raise funds for Asthma UK.

The four-track record laid down at Roomworks Recordings under the guidance of producer Rob Thom features singles Breakout, Staying Young , Lose Myself and Grow A Pair.

"If I have a bad day I channel it into music," said the 19-year-old.

"It can be good things but it's more how to look at negative things in a positive light.

"It helps me get over things.

"I just jam and write the first thing that comes into my head. I hum along with my guitar, string random chords together and then write the lyrics.

"I waited a year, I didn't want to do my EP before anyone knew me. I wanted to build a fan base first."

Time has flown by for Tara since she first showcased her music in public one year ago, with appearances at Art on the Street, Norden Farm Centre for the Arts and on Marlow FM already under her belt.

The former TeenStar contestant said she often finds it easier performing on bigger stages when the bright lights can blind her from the audience.

Tara, who is on the bill for Marlow Regatta on June 14, juggles her time in the studio with her studies at Southampton Solent University, where she has just completed the first year of a music promotion degree.

"I would love to do the performance side, 100 per cent, but I know there's only a small chance of getting there and I will never give up that dream but I know I need a back-up plan.

"I love playing my music and I'm just doing it for fun. I'm hoping it leads on to something else."

Maidenhead Advertiser Interviews

A teenage singer and songwriter from Maidenhead has reached number one in an online music chart.

Four days after 19-year-old music production student Tara Deane, of Blackamoor Lane, released a video on YouTube of her new song Staying Young she was contacted by The Fab Chart on Twitter, informing her that she had topped its weekly list of 30 hits.

Tara has stayed on the top spot for two weeks running.

The Fab Chart, a UK independent station which focuses on unique and off beat music, is based on a tune's online popularity rather than sales.

Listeners tune in from all over the world.

The chart appearance of Staying Young, which she recorded with friend Rob Thom at his home studios Roomwork Recording in Moor View Court, came after she posted the video on YouTube and Twitter.

Since catching people's attention both Tara's Twitter followers have increased and the number of YouTube hits of the video has soared from 100 to 700.

The video of the song shows clips of Tara, who attends to Southampton Solent University, playing her guitar and singing on a beach interspersed with footage of her friends and family from all over the world.

Tara wrote Staying Young as a response to the common saying 'youth is wasted on the young."

She said: "It is not wasted on the young.

"We absolutely make the most of life."

"Rob and I are both very proud of it, it is amazing for one of my songs to be brought to life."

The former Reading College student is hoping to maintain her position in the chart for at least another week.

Tara is well-known in the Maidenhead music circuit after appearing at events including Art on the Street and Maidenhead Festival.

Tara is now in the process of recording a four-track album.

THIS year’s Woodcote Festival raised more than £1,000 for the village hall.

Hundreds of people attended the event on the village green.

There were performances by the Woodcote Primary School choir and Langtree School orchestra as well as several local singers and rock bands.

The live stage was compered by Jester Giggles, a children’s entertainer from Nuffield.

There were dog agility demonstrations by the Goring Growlers plus silly games for all age, including wheelbarrow and sack races and a tug of war contest involving dozens of villagers.

Classic cars, vintage steam engines and tractors and Harley-Davidson motorbikes were on display and families could ride on a miniature steam train called Fiery Fred.

A produce show was held in the village hall with entries including fruit and vegetables, art and photography. There was also a scarecrow show and baking competition for children. Organiser Helena McBride said: “We were thrilled with the turnout. I’ve always said the festival should be run by the village and for the village — and once again that’s exactly what it was. I think we had something there for everybody.

“The main aim is to put on an event the whole community can enjoy. We don’t expect to raise money so we’re glad to have done so this year.”

The proceeds will go towards upkeep of the hall and a new community defibrillator.
